A lot has happened…

The last time I posted a blog, Jon and I had hauled Split Second out in Belfast, ME. That was the start of our vacation period which ended up being much longer than expected.  Due to the many events… During our vacation, the islands were hit with two devastating hurricanes, so as the crew, we decided it would be best to stay put in New England a month longer than we had originally planned.  At the same time, our boss decided he wanted to sell Split Second as he was interested in purchasing a new boat…

Fast forward to today Saturday, January 6th 2018.  Since September, Jon and I have purchased an adorable waterfront home in Northport, ME, decided to leave our job on Split Second, and we just landed a new job on an 83 foot catamaran!  This year was the first year in three years that we were able to spend the holidays with our closest friends and family! We had forgotten what it felt like to be in a winter climate during the holidays! What a treat!

Throughout the past four months, Jon and I have experienced several different emotions.   Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated one of the most beautiful places on earth, of which we consider to be one of our homes.  Many of our closest friends lost their homes as well as their careers in the charter industry.  Throughout the sale of Split Second, our relationship with our old boss became very trying.  We knew we should move on, but knew it would be extremely difficult to land a new job considering many crews who lost their boats in the hurricanes were searching as well.  The purchase of our new home was an extreme high! Jon and I have always envisioned having a waterfront property, but we did not think that was possible in our first home! We are unbelievably happy with the area and the community we chose to live in.  And of course, being hired to work on the new 83 foot catamaran seems like a dream come true! The professionalism of the owner and the management company has been very refreshing. Third time is a charm!

In other news, Jon and I will be flying to Gibraltar in 3 days to meet the new cat and do a handover with the previous crew! Once the handover is complete, the boat will be loaded onto a yacht transport ship and shipped from Gibraltar  to West Palm, FL.  That process will take about 3 weeks…at that time Jon and I will head to FL to do a refit on the catamaran, and prep her for the upcoming charter season which starts for us in March!  This is will be the first cat Jon and I have worked on that hasn’t already been in the charter fleet.  This means that Jon and I get to set the boat up from scratch!  New water toys, new dinghy, dish-ware, linens, decorations, galley appliances etc… Should be a fun/exciting/hectic project!

Jon and I have once again started on a new adventure! This season we will be based out of the Bahamas, and will hopefully be able to head back to the beloved Caribbean very soon! Updates on the new boat will start next week! Thank you to our family for the continued support!

Cheers,

Kait and Jon
