We made it!

Before we started this charter season on Split Second, there was a small part of me (and maybe Jon too) that was wondering if we were in fact cut out for this industry.  After being told off  by the owners of the boat that we previously worked on, I was not 100% sure we were actually good at this!  We have never received a bad review or had any charter guest not enjoy their vacation with us, but there is always a little doubt after being told “you won’t make it.”

Fast forward to today, June 26th 2017.  We are on our last charter of the season in Bermuda, at the America’s Cup.  We drop off these guests on the 28th, which will be the end of the 2016-2017 charter season for Split Second.  I think it is safe to say that we made it!

I think both Jon and I have learned quite a bit this season.  Jon is an incredibly knowledgeable Captain, but I must say, he has impressed me even more than I ever thought was possible.  Split Second has been on the move quite a bit this year and by the time we reach Maine, we will have travelled about 5,000  nautical miles.  We started the season in Grenada and sailed on to St. Maarten, St. Barth’s, USVI, BVI, the Bahamas, Fort Lauderdale, Bermuda, and the last stop is home to Maine!  First off, thank you to everyone who has helped us out on the deliveries! We could not have done it without you! Sleep is way too precious :-).  But also, thank you to Captain Jon for making sure we all arrived safely! I wouldn’t want to share this adventure with anyone else.

As for me, I have definitely learned A LOT in the galley this season.  I knew that Split Second was a step up from our previous boat.  That meant that I would also have to step up my game.  I am not going to say I wasn’t nervous about this… I honestly didn’t know if my food was up to par with all the other Lagoon 620’s in the industry.  I am not culinary trained, and I have just learned by doing…and of course with help from my fellow charter cheffies.  Now, I can confidently say that I can do this! I have received amazing feedback from our charter guests and let me tell you, that feels so good! Of course, there is always room for improvement, but now I know that I am in fact a good cook.

Lastly, as most of you already know, we have had a third crew member with us for the charter season.  Isaac has exceeded our expectations.  He is an amazing bar tender, and also helps me out immensely with plating in the galley.  He pretty much does whatever needs to be done at that given time…and is happy to rise to the occasion.  I frequently wonder how Jon and I did this alone last season…our work load would be so much more without him.  Thanks Isaac!

Thank you to all of our family and friends for the support! Thank you to my mom and dad for watching over our completely spoiled pets.  And thank you to all of our charter friends that have shared advice, stories (good and bad) and cocktails with us! We are so incredibly excited to have Split Second in New England this summer.  Mostly, we are excited to be home for a few months! See you all soon! Cheers to a great charter season!
